The Pitt County, North Carolina Jail Roster is a public resource that allows you to find out who is currently in custody at the Pitt County Detention Center. On the PittCourt.us website, you can find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data is available through the official sheriff's website, by phone, or during a personal visit to the detention facility. Searching the roster allows you to check the detention status of a specific person, find out the charges brought against them, and the bail amount. The roster is maintained by the Pitt County Sheriff's Office and is regularly updated to reflect the current inmate population at the Detention Center.
Search Current Inmates in Pitt Jail
Pitt County provides two separate online tools for searching individuals in custody. Each serves a different need.
- Search via PittCourt.us — allows you to search publicly available court and arrest information related to Pitt County.
- Detainee Search on the county website — the official detainee search tool shows information about charges, sentences, and bail for individuals currently held at the Pitt County Detention Center. Searches can be conducted by full booking number or by full or partial last name.
- Charges Inquiry Search — a separate portal provides data on charges and bail for individuals currently charged. Records are kept for approximately the last 30 days.
To start a search, you will need:
- The person's full legal last name (first name is optional, to narrow results)
- Booking number, if known
Information about juvenile offenders is not displayed in the public roster. Records of juveniles are regulated separately through the NC Department of Public Safety.
Contact by Phone or Personal Visit
If the online search yields no results, call the facility directly or visit in person.
Pitt County Sheriff's Office
When calling, provide the person's full name. The dispatcher can confirm whether they are currently in custody.
Find Pitt Jail Booking Records Online
A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially admitted to the Detention Center. This document records key processing data.
What the record contains:
- Unique booking number
- Date and time of admission
- List of charges brought
- Name of the arresting agency
- Amount of bail (if set)
The fastest way to obtain this data is to use the Detainee Search. The tool shows charges, sentences, and bail information for each detainee. If the person has already been released, their record may not be available through this portal — in such cases, contact the sheriff's office with a written request for public records.
To check court cases related to the arrest, use the North Carolina Court Records Portal. There, searches are available by name, case number, and county. If the person has been transferred to state prison, their data will appear in the NC DAC offender search system, not in the county roster.
Search the Pitt Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number
Both official county portals support two main search methods.
Search by Last Name
- Open the Detainee Search page.
- Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. The system accepts partial last names — for example, "John" will show all individuals whose last names begin with these letters.
- Optionally, add a first name to narrow the list.
- Click the search button.
Some practical tips:
- Check spelling — one letter error can hide the desired record
- Try variations with or without hyphens
- If the last name is common, be sure to include the first name
Search by Booking Number
If you know the booking number, enter it in full. This method returns an exact result without the need to filter the list.
What to Do If the Search Yields No Results
The absence of results does not always mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:
- The person has already been released — the roster only reflects current inmates
- Booking is not yet complete, and data has not been entered into the system
- The person is held in another facility or transferred to the state system
In such cases, call the Detention Center or check the Charges Inquiry Search, which covers a slightly different time range of records.
Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Pitt
The Pitt County inmate roster is updated regularly to reflect the current composition of the Detention Center. However, there may be some time between actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online system — usually from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the facility's workload and data entry speed.
Main limitations to keep in mind:
- Delay after arrest. A recently detained person may not yet appear in the system until the processing is complete.
- Disappearance of records after release. When a person is released — on bail, by court decision, or after serving a term — their record is removed from the public roster. The portal is not an archive.
- Charges Inquiry retains records for only about the last 30 days. Older data is not available through this tool.
- Transfers. If a detainee is transferred to a state facility, their records will appear in the NC DAC database, and disappear from the county roster.
